A prayer for insight

Hello Lord,

a year and a half ago I was tired

nine months ago I was exhausted

then I was hollowed out, emptied inside

and waiting.

I remain here, hollowed out and waiting.

My prayer is for perspective

for renewed insight

to see things in a new way.

Hagar, servant to Sarai, consort of Abram, mother of Ishmael,

named you the God who sees, the God who saw her,

who recognized her when no one did.

And in being seen by you, that brave woman in desolation

saw new things about herself, about her future.

Your sight, Seeing God, gave her insight.

I ask you from this hollow place of waiting,

lift up my eyes to see you

remind my heart that I too am seen by you,

grant me new sight

new perspective

to catch sight of the horizon, where the light lives

and to take one step in that direction.

And Lord, do the same for all the faces I see around me

who also wait, hollowed, and yearning for sight.

For I do know that I am not alone.
