Into the Silence

Don’t get me wrong

I love the light

And adore the bright.

A sunny day is worth three of the gray ones.

But the times that are worth above all others

Are the margin moments of each 24-hour period.

The stillness and clear dark before dawn and

The silence between the setting of the sun and the lapse into sleep.

These are the precious times when the clamor pauses

The news cycle turns, but minds its own business

Unsettled disagreements are put on hold

The efforts of learning, building, inventing adjourn

And the mind greets the heart

The heart bows to the Center

And peace is, for a tiny space, disclosed again

Just where it has been waiting all along.
